Becoming a lifesaver follows many stages and steps. However, we will be there for when you sign up!

The process to becoming a lifesaver is very different in contrast to other volunteer organisations.
We ask you to contact the Director of Administration, Victoria, to assist you with signing up. Contacting us sometimes expedites the process and clarifies any questions that you may have along the way. You can contact Victoria via email — enquiries@stklsc.com.au.
The following information is checklist in becoming a lifesaver.

Step 1: Working With Children Check (18 years & older)


Our state body requires all members over the age of 18 to have undergone a Working With Children Check. These checks are issued by the State Government — Victorian Department of Justice. It is imperitive that you must have successfully passed the verification stages of this check.
Even if you already have your Working With Children Check or not, you must list St Kilda Life Saving Club as a related organisation. If you already have your Working With Children Check, this can be done on the Working With Children Check's portal.

Step 2: Register your membership through SLSA


Once you have successfully passed the Working With Children Check screening, you will be able to apply for club membership through the Surf Life Saving Australia gateway.

Step 3: Sign up for your course


Once we get in contact with you (if we haven't already), we will show you how to sign up for the course you wish to undertake.

Bronze Medallion


Completing the Bronze Medallion requires participants to complete various activities and sections:
‣ Be a minimum 15 years of age on the date of the final assessment
‣ Have completed a 200 meter run - 400 meter swim - 200 meter run in under nine minutes unaided (googles/mask permitted), in a swimming pool of not less than 25 metres, or over a measured open water.

Surf Rescue Certificate


Completing the Surf Rescue Certificate is similar to the Bronze Medallion. However, some areas are not learnt in contrast to the Bronze Medallion. Ideally the Surf Rescue Certificate is open to those between 13 to 15 years old. Anyone is allowed to complete the Surf Rescue Certificate.
To have successfully complete your Surf Rescue Certificate, you have must:
‣ Be at least 13 years of age on the date of final assessment
‣ Have completed a 200 metre swim in under five minutes unaided (googles/mask permitted), in a swimming pool of not less than 25 metres, or over a measured open water.
